Vote Now
You've read the story and seen the facts; time to vote! (Admit it, this is a much better vote to engage in than the current Presidential campaign, which is just getting ridiculous!) Of course, feel free to leave any comments and thoughts, including tips about protecting an inheritance, if you have any.

Your mother's loss is one that was tragic - long before insult was added to injury by a former friend blinded by his greed.
The truth will be known. I hope this lowlife reaps his rewards quickly while your mother and the rest of your family can receive closure and relief from this disgustingly evil assault.
I don't know who wrote the first comment but it is very eloquent and well said. My family appreciates it very much and we thank you for taking the time.
Yes, greed can be very powerful, apparently. It's very sad. I urge everyone to use the site as a segue way into a discussion w/your parents, grandparents, whoever, to discuss their arrangemetns. I've already had a few people get back to me in disbelief that their parents have a similiar arrangement!
I'm quickly learning there is another piece to the puzzle here... parents often still see their kids as kids, even when they are forty! So, they still set things up w/a friend. For example, I have two friends who are in their thirties and inherited money from the grandparents. Their fathers still handle all the money for them out of a trust fund and aren't willing to just turn the funds over to them. Why? The grandparents and fathers just have a tough time seeing their kids as adults.
From the Webster Dictionary:
Walter Mahaffay noun Human trash.
Do you think his wife knew? She must by now. If she doesn't fix it she must have known. I'm a mother myself and how she, as a mother, could do this to another mother is beyond me. If she doesn't fix it, she's a guilty as he is.

A compelling story. I hope he gets exactly what he deserves.
It's unfortunate that Walter took the money meant for mom, but your stepdad was warned by his attorney that this might happen. And then it happened.
Something else happened during the Great Depression. A phrase was coined that said, "There's a sucker born every minute". This is yet another example of the accuracy of that phrase.
You also better hope Walter doesn't use his ill-gotten gains to hire a lawyer and sue for slander.
Thanks for your concern. Yup, Rudy didn't exercise the best judgment for sure. But, again, I think looking at all the aspects of their relationship, the idea of Walter possibly doing anything unethical never entered his mind.
As for slander, that would be one hell of a lawyer to sue for slander! Slander refers to the spoken word, only. I did my homework and had a few different attorneys check out everything ahead of time.
Forgetting Rudy and Walter, those reading the site seem to be getting the message and that is the whole point. Two more people contacted me today to inform me that their parents have a similar bizarre setup and they are now changing it. We are reaching people before it is too late, like it was for my mom and Rudy.
Have a good wknd, everyone!
I feel very sorry for your mom's loss.... and I second what everyone else has said.... I just have one warning for you. You are openly admitting that your mom was complicit in what sounds like felony tax evasion. I would be very careful, because even though the money was stolen after Rudy's death, if your mom knew about it- she is basically admitting guilt.
Thanks for the warning. I appreciate all the concern and comments. No felony tax evasion. Rudy paid taxes on all his income. There was no interest to pay taxes on because he kept his money (i.e. the principal) in the SDB. He just thought she would have to pay taxes on an inheritance like it was income but she wouldn't have for any amount under $2 mil.
If anyone has to worry about tax evasion it is probably Walter. He can't very well report the money can he? That would be admitting guilt. On the other hand it wasn't left to him in a will so its not inheritance its income so he would have to pay taxes on it. Looks like he really put himself in a pickle. I'd say the only thing Rudy was guilty of is very poor judgmetn of character. Your mother is in my prayers.

Let me preface this by saying I detest Ian Coburn. He came out of nowhere with a book (not this one God is a Woman: Dating Disasters) which isn’t anything special and yet he sold tons of copies across not only the U.S. but the world. Now it is even available in Russian. Are you kidding me??!! He is nothing but a talentless writer who is a PR guru. Typical of successful books.
Walter, how stupid are you? In law school I had a professor who used to say that greed breeds stupidity. You exemplify that statement. Clearly you cast the only vote in your favor which just makes you look greedier and stupider. No one will believe any votes for you are legitimate. How could even your own mother or wife read this story and vote in your favor in good conscience?
How strong is my contempt for Ian Coburn? I’m going to give you some free legal advice, Walter. Hire an attorney. Meet with Ian, return your ill-gotten goods and sign a non-disclosure agreement to take your name off the site. Do it before search engines pick up the site. Once they do they will show your name and part of the story forever, even when the site goes down. Don’t you watch 60 Minutes?
Cut your losses and walk away before it is too late. You thought you were stealing from a senior citizen widow and didn’t realize her son was a PR junkie. I’ve read Ian’s articles on getting PR. He released his book on Valentine’s Day to get “built-in media.” Do you think it is a coincidence he put this site up before Mother’s Day? Hell no. Once it goes mainstream—and it’s almost guaranteed to do so, let’s face it this is a huge human story interest piece that warrants coverage—people will write nasty things about you, your family, your wife, etc. You’ll lose business and will probably won’t be able to drum up new business. People google everyone these days, people they are considering dating or doing business with, everyone. The first thing they will see starting in a few weeks when search engines pick up the site is this site about you. It is rich with content of your name and Grundy Supply. You don’t even have your own site. Even if you got one now it would forever appear after his because his came first.
You don’t want to sue for defamation. One, you won’t win. Two, Ian will just use it to get more PR. (That’s why I want you to deal and I’m giving you this advice. I don’t want him to get anymore PR. I have no concerns for you. You are an ass and deserve to be outed. You have no one to blame but your greedy self.) The absolute defense against libel and defamation is the truth. Ian seems to have that and have it well documented. He brought a friend to meet with you? Very savvy and probably recommended by an attorney. Everything from that point on was probably suggested by lawyers. The second strongest defense is consent. Ian states you gave that on the site. Let me guess he contacted you about the site ahead of time. He invited you to look at it and created a phone, paper, and electronic trail, right? He told you to let him know if you had any problems or if any of the information was inaccurate and that if you didn’t contact him by a certain date, he would deem that as consent and that you were fine with the information and site. And you didn’t do anything, you just sat there with your thumb up your ass. Good job. He can now argue consent on your part. How do I know all this? I don’t but that’s what a good attorney would advise him to do. Also defamation suits just attract more media.
So cut your losses. That’s how I would advise you if I were your attorney. It’s not your money to begin with. Otherwise, your greed will likely destroy you and your family’s life. People can post all kinds of things to this blog and Ian’s not responsible. I googled Grundy Supply. Your email address is WAMALAMI@aol.com. Your wife, Lynne, maiden name Veronda, went to Coal City high school and graduated in 1989. I found all that out just by googling Grundy Supply. I can put that here, it’s public knowledge and Ian’s not responsible. I can put private information here too and he’s still not responsible. Opinion he is definitely protected from. Why? Because the cause of all this is you, rightfully so. You did bring this upon yourself. In fact, Ian doesn't even come out and accuse you of stealing. Instead, he asks people to vote. Very shrewd and again no doubt advised by an attorney.
So please, I implore you do not extend Ian’s fifteen minutes of fame any longer. He didn’t deserve more than 10 seconds to begin with. I suspect someone else was already advised in this same manner and signed a non-disclosure agreement with Ian. The evidence on the site also mentions “Al Snyder of Remax” but Ian says he can’t talk about him. Notice he doesn’t say that he likes Al or Al is a great guy. Notice he doesn’t mention Al anywhere on the site just as an addendum where his name appears on evidence. It sounds very much like Al also stole some inheritance but signed an agreement that neither he nor Ian can discuss. I googled Al too and found this page about him on Remax. http://www.alsnyder.net/remaxil/modules/agent/agent.asp?acc=31511&p=pressreleases.asp&pr=7509&location=subheading&itemid=4109. I think this is him although I can’t be sure and I bet Ian can’t confirm, can you, Ian?
So Walter, how close did I come to hitting the nail on the head? Is this how it has played out so far? I don’t like Ian but I have to say he is devilishly shrewd. Why don’t I like him? Because I don’t think he is talented and because he is just too sincere. I don’t believe it. There has to be a creep in there someplace. But I can never find it. Google his name, everything comes up roses and sincere. And I detest you more Walter because a) I have a mom, everyone does which is yet another angle for PR and b) you’re responsible for creating a situation that has made him appear the most sincere, yet.
I will preface by saying that Ian Coburn is an extremely talented writer and his book God is a Woman Dating Disasters rocks! I agree greed breeds stupidity but that's hardly original to your professor. it's an old saying.
Can you say malicious prosecution suit? That's what Walter would be looking at if he sued because he knows the truth is on Ian's side.
Carol
It is obvious that the only person who voted in favor of Walter is Walter himself or somebody with a 2nd grade education, since the evidence itself speaks for itself. I think my 5 year-old could see the answer clearly enough.
SoWalter how do you look at yourself in the mirror every morning? I wonder how you would feel if somebody stole your wife's entire inheritance? Hey, what goes around comes around. You never know. So you are obviously not a religious man, moral man, or even a good father. Talk about being a poor example. How do you not vomit everyday when you think about what you've done or when you see your reflection in the mirror. A part of me feels almost sorry for you - because you are such a waste of life, and on the other hand you are pathetic and don't deserve to be called a human! Why don't you be a man and clear your conscience by returning what you stole.
"Do onto others as you would have them do onto you."
A biblical quote - not like you have ever read the bible or would let it sink in.

This story was difficult to read. I hate to hear about this type of deception and dishonesty. Especially to a senior. I hope Walter gets whats coming to him.
You were right, this is the greediest.
Walter has a friend! Good for him. He seems like a nice guy... NOT! A warning to Walter's friend who voted "no": don't put his name on your safe deposit box! :)
